Jan Jacob Coenraad Spohler
Dutch, 1837-1923

Jan Jacob Coenraad Spohler was the first-born son of the well-known Dutch artist Jan Jacob Spohler.  Information concerning Spohler’s formal education is sparse.  It is evident, that Spohler followed his father’s example.  Like his father, Jan Jacob Coenraad Spohler dedicated his life to the portrayal of the Dutch landscapes and cityscapes and became a well-known painter himself.

Jan Jacob Coenraad Spohler also studied with Jan Willem Pieneman (1779-1853) an artist considered by most to be the founder of Dutch 19th Century painting.  Spohler trained with Pieneman in Amsterdam, but Jan Jacob Coenraad Spohler is also known to have worked in Haarlem and in Brussels.
