Joseph Morgan Henninger
American, 1906 - 1999

Born in Elwood, Indiana on May 15, 1906, Joseph Henninger studied at the Herron Art Institute in Indianapolis, the National Academy of Design, and with Lucien Simon at Ecole des Beaux Arts in Paris. 


After settling in Los Angeles in 1933, he taught at the Art Center School, illustrated for the aircraft industry, and worked in the art departments of the movie studios. He was one of the original founders and President Pro-Tem for the Society of Illustrators of Los Angeles, 1953.  The Society has named the Best in Show award for their Illustration West competition (currently in it 48th year) after him: Joseph Morgan Henninger, Best in Show Award.
