Marie-Guillaume-Charles Leroux
French, 1814-1895

Marie-Guillaume-Charles Leroux was a student of Corot and was advised by Rousseau and Dore. He painted mostly around Fontainebleau and the Loire Valley. Baudelaire refers to his work at the Salon in 1846 (where he exhibited on a regular basis), admiring his sincere approach to color and nature. His dramatic seascapes with crashing waves along a rocky beach exemplifies well the artist's impressionistic technique.
